Captial Campaign
At Second Baptist Church we are a community of people who believe, follow, and find their greatest joy in Jesus Christ and adhere to the teachings of Scripture. We desire that SBC be a place where people can connect with God and grow in their knowledge of his glory and greatness, as well as find encouragement and accountability through friendships with other believers.
The Gospel is the cornerstone message around which everything we do revolves. We understand that all human beings are fundamentally flawed in their relationships with God from the moment they first do something that is outside of his desire for their lives. The Bible describes this as the moment we become sinners, and sin is what separates people from God. As sinners we are completely unable to bridge the chasm that our sin has created between God and us. Because God is perfectly holy he cannot let our sin go unpunished. It must be paid for. But because God loves us deeply he has made a way to bridge the chasm between us. God himself came to the earth in the form of the man Jesus Christ, who was both fully God and fully man. Jesus lived the sinless life that no man has lived, and on a cross where he was crucified, he took on the payment for every person’s sin. God punished his own Son in our place in order to bring us back into a relationship with him again. Three days later he was raised from the dead to show that death could no longer have any power over us. Romans 4 describes the glorious good news that by placing our faith in Jesus his righteousness is credited to us, so that before God it is as if we had never sinned against him.
Because of our commitment to the Gospel we are thus committed to leading people to Christ and growing them in faith. This is our mission and driving passion. We believe the local church is vital to the creation and growth of believers in Jesus Christ. We hope that you’ll come and check out one of our Sunday morning worship services at either 9:00 or 11:00, and we hope that you’ll get connected to one of our small group Bible studies at 10:05 on Sunday mornings. See the Visiting SBC page for more info.
